Want to start advertising and getting new visitors and leads on your website?
Advertising is a great tool for both awareness, consideration, conversion and retargeting, but it can also be a waste of money if you don't think about the next step after the customer sees the ad.
What is supposed to happen? What CTA do you have? Where do you want the ad to lead to?
What many people forget is that the ad often leads to the home page of the website or a campaign page, and if you then have a website that is not of the best quality or not optimized, it can have devastating consequences.
Your visitors on the website can decide in seconds if your page convinces them that they trust you, like your content and if they are convinced that your product is right for them. But they will only have a positive experience of your company if you have a well-planned, optimized website with relevant, well-thought-out content. Everything from copy, your message, images, links and other things is super important!
If you fail to have a well-planned, optimized website with relevant, well-thought-out content, your visitors will just leave the website immediately and not return, which will lead to fewer sales for your business.
In this blog post, we share with you some points that are important to think about doing on your website before you even start advertising.

10 things to improve on your website
- Make a message about the deep benefit of your offer. It's about an emotional response or a meaningful transformation. Just explaining the offer and the benefits of the product/service will not be enough. You need to really push on those emotions! Because that is what your customers really want, deep down.
- Use empowering headlines in your texts and decide how you want your reader to feel, and then write like it. Really think about what words you are choosing and how do you feel when you read it. Maybe use AI tool to help you with the copy and choice of words?
- Maintain a clear and consistent navigation structure across your website to help visitors easily find the information they're looking for. Use familiar navigation patterns, such as horizontal menus or sidebar menus, to make it intuitive for users to navigate.
- Provide clear cause-and-effect relation in your texts which tends to be more persuasive.
- Encourage the reader to envision a scenario or outcome, a positive one or motivational one, that evokes a sense of possibility. When a reader can see the scenario infront of themselves, you become more relatable.
- Update your blog posts and other webpages regularly. This not only helps with SEO, but it makes you seem more updated on the latest fact and informations. Also you are showing that you can adapt your website after latest updates and making your website seem modern and trendy. If you want to do even more, publish a podcast regularly.
- Include quality images and videos on the website. Many people forget this! Great for SEO and sometimes a images says more that a thousand words. By including images related to your services and showing of the people behind the company, you increase the chance of people liking your brand.
- Set up your analytics tools! Set up a tool like Google Analytics 4 so that you can see if your ads are achieving the goals you wanted with the ad. It's hard when they click on the ad and come to your webpage to follow and see what they do and what is was on the page that made them leave without a purchase. So make sure to use analytic tools like Hubspot Analytics and GA4 on your website. You can also connect your Hubspot Ads to your Google ads account, LinkedIn Ads account and Meta ads account. You can read more about this here.
- Ensure your website is fully responsive and displays properly on various devices and screen sizes. It is extremely annoying when a website is not optimized properly. Like I said earlier, it takes seconds before a visitors decides to leave because of how the website looks, and then you have lost them.
- Optimize your SEO - focus on social search optimization, avoiding link spam penalties, and optimizing on-page elements. Enhance your website's on-page elements by including case studies, statistics, trust signals, and a compelling "About Us" page. You can read more about how to work on your SEO in 2024 here.
